Catalogue des livres de Monsieur le Président Crozat de Tugny, title with woodcut ornament, woodcut head- and tail-pieces, priced in a contemporary hand, pencil annotations of Anthony Hobson, some light browning and a few spots and stains, [Bigmore & Wyman III, pp.8-9; Grolier, French Auction Catalogues, 91; Peignot p.93], Paris, Claude-Charles Thiboust, 1751 bound with an anonymous 18th century French book sale catalogue of 334 lots (it was for sale at Gabriel Martin's shop in 1753 according to a loosely inserted note by Hobson), together 2 works in 1 vol., contemporary calf, gilt spine in compartments and with red morocco label, loss to spine foot (lacking lowest compartment), joints cracked but holding, extremities rubbed, 8vo.

⁂ Anthony Hobson's copy of this scarce catalogue. Crozat de Tugny (1696-1751) was a lawyer and president of a chamber of the Paris parliament. His collection of fine art was bought almost in its entirety by Catherine the Great, and forms the nucleus of The Hermitage in St. Petersburg. The present book catalogue comprises 5002 lots, and is particularly rich in history, vernacular romances and works relating to the fine arts.

Provenance: Anthony Hobson (1921-2014), book auctioneer, book historian (particularly bindings) and bibliophile (armorial bookplate).
