Mineralogy.- Mohs (Friedrich) Versuch einer Elementar-Methode zur naturhistorischen Bestimmung und Erkennung der Fossilien, first edition, part 1 (all published), lightly foxed and browned, nineteenth-century boards with spine label, sunned, 8vo, Vienna, 1812.
⁂ The outline for his scale of the hardness of minerals, which was not commonly employed till several years later. Mohs (1773-1839) was an outstanding student of chemistry and mineralogy. As well as his famous scale, he also catalogued the important mineral collection of Viennese banker J.F. von der Null and published a 2-volume catalogue in 1804.
