Surgery.- Tagault (Jean) De chirurgica institutione libri quinque. His accessit sextus liber de materia chirurgica, title with woodcut printer's device, woodcut illustrations, head-pieces and decorative initials, trimmed at head, affecting some headlines, v4 piece torn from lower corner close to a printed side-note, occasional spotting or light staining, mostly lightly browned, later endpapers, 17th century vellum, yapp edges, upper cover with initials 'P B A C' stamped in black and lower cover with date '1665' stamped in black, spine in compartments and with ms. title, lacking ties, little marked, [Adams T56; Durling 4032; Wellcome 6207], 8vo, Lyon, Guillaume Rouillé, 1567.
⁂ Rare edition at auction of this compilation of surgical texts drawn from the writings of Guy de Chauliac, and a with a section on surgical implements by Jacques Houllier. Tagault was Dean of the Paris medical faculty, where he dissected cadavers for teaching purposes. Pupils at the faculty at the time included a young Vesalius.
