⁂ Influential work by Pietro Verri (1728-1797), Italian economist, administrator and philosopher, first published in Livorno in 1771, which went through several editions in the first year and was translated into French, German, Dutch and, more recently, English. It is known that Adam Smith owned a copy in his library.

Rt. Hon.Henry Hobhouse (1776-1854), English archivist and civil servant, succeeded John Bruce as Keeper of the State Papers in 1826 following retirement from his role as Permanent Under Secretary of State for the Home Department (1817-1827).
