Shackleton (Ernest H.) and others, editors. The South Polar Times, 3 vol., first edition, vol.1 & 2 number 20 of 250 copies, vol.3 number 156 of 350 copies, half-titles, chromolithographed frontispieces, numerous plates, maps and illustrations after Herbert Ponting, Edward Wilson and others, some chromolithographed, a few folding, some tipped in, prospectuses and subscription form loosely inserted in vol.1, some light foxing at beginning and end of vol.3, fine original pictorial blue cloth, gilt, g.e., with the original dust-jackets, that of vol.3 faded to pale brown as usual and with minor tear to foot of rear panel, preserved together in modern cloth slip-case with dividers, [Spence 1094; Taurus Collection 42, 79], 4to, 1907-1914.
⁂ A superb copy of an essential part of any polar collection, and in the very scarce original dust-jackets. The dust-jacket of volume 3 was printed on a different paper stock as the book was published seven years after the previous volumes, hence the tendency to fade. It is very rare to find the dust-jackets present and exceptional in this condition.
