Description

Jasper Johns (b.1930) (after)

False Start I

Offset lithograph printed in colours, 1975, on BFK Rives wove paper, printed and published by Universal Limited Art Editions, Inc., Islip, with their stamp, the full sheet, 570 x 443mm (22 3/8 x 17 3/8) (unframed)

In 1970, Tanya Grosman and the ULAE embarked on a project with Jasper Johns to create a catalogue raisonné of the artist's prints. To be included in the publication were twelve offset lithographed prints inspired by the artist's most iconic images and original editions. Other than their size, the paper, colour and printing sequence match the original edition. The project was ultimately abandoned after Grosman's untimely death in 1982, and there are thus only a limited number of these 'after' editions like the present example available today.
